Why dance for Oyo?

Dancers have a lot of options when it comes to auditioning for professional work. Oyo Dance Company is a special organization, and we are proud of what sets us apart from the rest!

    • Oyo is open to dancers of all shapes, sizes, ages, and backgrounds. We donā€™t have a certain ā€œaesthetic,ā€ and we actively encourage dancers from a variety of backgrounds to audition.
    • Oyo is a small company, so dancers get a lot of individualized attention. Dancer training is customized to each individualā€™s body, background, and needs.
    • Oyo is a young, growing company. Hence, Oyo dancers have opportunities that may not be available in larger companies. All of our dancers have the chance to work directly with guest choreographers and teachers, participate in outreach, and actively participate in growing the company.
    • Oyo maintains a positive, supportive personal and professional atmosphere. We work diligently to recruit and hire teachers, choreographers, board members, and dancers who are committed to positive growth, nurturing interactions, and quality art. We do not foster a competitive atmosphere, but instead focus on helping each member of our artistic community reach their full potential.
    • Oyo focuses on good mental health as well as physical health. We recognize the stresses that come with studying dance, and offer dancers support and training in mental health first aid and positive body image, and provide mentorship for them as they continue their personal growth.
    • Oyo provides support for treatment of existing injuries and avoidance of future injuries. Dance is a physically demanding art form, and Oyo provides cross-training in Pilates to help dancers increase strength and balance. We have a network of sports medicine, orthopedic, and other professionals that work with dancers needing additional medical support.
